Rooibos or Redbush as it is more commonly known is red tea that is grown only in the South African highlands. It comes from the plant Aspalathus linearis, rather than the Camellia plants that produce traditional teas, such as Black, Green or Oolong tea. The name Rooibos, an African slang word of Dutch origin meaning “Red Bush.” Rooibos tea is a distinctive red colour and its taste is also unique with a very sweet and slightly nutty flavour.

The health benefits of green tea have been trumpeted in the media recently. Even though the claims may be exaggerated, if you’re going to drink much of any beverage other than water, tea is probably your best choice.

Tea is water plus phytochemicals including caffeine, and very little else unless you add a lot of sugar. Both green and black tea come from the same plant, camellia sinensis. To make green tea, the leaves are steamed, rolled and dried. For black tea, the leaves are dried, then fermented and fired.

A Tea Party may have the reputation of being a calm and quiet gathering, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be a good time. Use all of the things you do during tea time as inspiration or decorating supplies. Find shapes of tea cups and saucers, cookies, tea pots, flowers. Do you play cards during tea? Do you discuss a book? Do you share gardening tips?

Green tea is a kind of tea that has been very popular in China and Japan for centuries, and has recently seen a massive explosion in popularity in the West. Its rise is linked in many ways to that of the alternative health movement, which sees green tea as having a range of traditional healing properties and abilities to cure diseases. Although these claims have not been proven, there is documentation for belief in them that goes back over a thousand years.
